A Range Test Adventure with the Punch EV

As you might have seen from the thumbnail, today was all about the much-talked-about Punch EV. If you’ve been following our channel, you know we’ve covered this car extensively before. From its initial launch in Bangalore to comprehensive walkarounds and drive reviews, we’ve tested and documented almost every aspect of this car. But today, we set out for a different kind of test—a real-world range test on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

Our objective was simple yet challenging: to drive the Punch EV under normal commuting conditions—speeding up when needed and keeping it between 60 to 80 km/h. We wanted to see how far we could push this EV without the hypermiling techniques we used in our previous test. This time, we aimed for a practical range test, driving the car in a manner that any regular commuter would.

The Journey Begins: From Dwarka to Jodhpura

We started our journey from Dwarka, Delhi, with a fully charged battery. The plan was to drive to Jodhpura in Rajasthan, a rest area on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, covering around 170 km one way—making it a total of approximately 340 km for the entire trip. Along the way, we planned to meet three Punch EV owners who had previously appeared on our channel. They were going to join us for an ownership review.

As we set off, it was just the two of us in the car. We had to pick up our third team member, who was about 20-25 km away. Once we picked up our teammate, the real test began. We cruised at speeds between 60 to 80 km/h, trying to keep things as realistic as possible.

Hitting the Highway

Soon, we reached the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The experience was surreal. The open road, the beautiful green belts on either side, and the smooth drive made it an unforgettable ride. About 100 km into the journey, the battery was at 62%. Our energy consumption was stable, and the car performed admirably even when we occasionally pushed it to 90 or 100 km/h to stay on schedule.

By the time we reached Jodhpura, we had covered 175 km, and the battery stood at around 34%. We decided to take a break and recharge the vehicle. We managed to charge it back up to about 66%, which we figured would be more than enough to get us back to Delhi.

Meeting with the Punch EV Owners

While the car was charging, we met with the three Punch EV owners. Their insights were invaluable, and the discussion covered everything from the car’s range to its comfort and safety features. The Punch EV had already impressed us with its performance, and hearing about the positive experiences of actual owners only reinforced our opinion.

The Return Journey: Testing the Limits

After wrapping up the shoot, we began our return journey. As the sun set, we were about 50-60 km into the drive back. Despite having driven 255 km already, the battery was still at 50%, showing an estimated range of 254 km. This was largely because of the brief charging stop we made earlier.

The drive back was smooth, although we had to keep an eye on the battery and energy consumption closely. We pushed the car a bit harder, maintaining speeds of around 80 to 100 km/h. We wanted to ensure we returned to Delhi in time, but we also wanted to see how the Punch EV would handle a more aggressive drive.

The Final Stretch: Conclusion of the Range Test

As we approached our starting point in Dwarka, it became clear that the Punch EV had surpassed our expectations. By the time we reached home, we had covered 350 km, with the battery remaining at around 18%. This meant we could have potentially driven another 50 km if needed.

Our conclusion? The Punch EV is an exceptional vehicle, especially considering its 35 kWh battery. If you’re looking for a feature-rich EV that combines practicality with an impressive range, the Punch EV should be at the top of your list. It handled both city traffic and highway cruising with ease, offering a smooth, quiet ride that only an EV can provide.

Driving 350 km in a single day without any significant fatigue was a testament to the comfort and efficiency of the Punch EV. This car truly offers a unique experience for anyone considering the switch to electric.

Final Thoughts

So, would I recommend the Punch EV? Absolutely. Whether you’re an urban commuter or someone who enjoys long drives, this car has a lot to offer. Just make sure to take it for a test drive, and I’m sure you’ll be as impressed as I was.

Until next time, drive safe and take care!
