The all-electric CURVV EV has been creating waves since its launch, and we recently had the opportunity to sit down with Aman Bindra, a proud owner of the CURVV EV’s top-end Empowered Plus variant, for an in-depth discussion. As he shared his experiences from the first 3,000 kilometers, it became clear that this electric vehicle offers a mix of cutting-edge features and practical benefits.

Initial Impressions and Ownership Costs

Aman Bindra’s CURVV EV is equipped with the ADS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and came at an on-road price of ₹23 lakh, aided by a tax-free EV incentive in Uttar Pradesh. He previously owned an i10 and has family-owned vehicles like the Celerio and KUV100 but was ready for an upgrade that would enhance both safety and comfort. His choice to transition to CURVV EV was motivated by its futuristic design, spacious cabin, and, crucially, its electric powertrain.

On-Cost Efficiency: “From paying about ₹7–8 per km on my i10, I’m now down to just ₹0.90 per km with the CURVV EV, thanks to home charging,” Bindra explained.

Driving Dynamics: From i10 to CURVV EV

The transition from a compact i10 to the CURVV EV has been transformative for Bindra, especially with the power delivery and handling. The instant torque delivery—a hallmark of EVs—impressed him from the get-go.

Driving Modes and Learning Curve: “Starting with the CURVV EV was a pleasant surprise, especially with the torque and acceleration in Sports Mode. The experience was addictive,” he shared. Bindra advises new EV owners to experiment with different modes to find the right balance of power and range.

Comfort Behind the Wheel: Aman from MotorByte also took a moment to comment on the seating, noting adequate legroom and under-thigh support. This space efficiency, paired with the sunroof view, makes for a pleasant experience for both front and rear passengers.

Practical Charging Insights

One of the key considerations for any EV buyer is charging infrastructure. Bindra shared his seamless experience setting up his home charger, thanks to Tata Power’s prompt service. However, there were some additional costs he hadn’t initially anticipated:

  • Meter and Load Increase: Bindra had to install a new 8 kW load meter, costing ₹56,000, as well as pay for a separate meter for his society parking. Tata’s included 7.2 kW charger has proved to be efficient, charging the vehicle to full overnight and taking 7-8 hours for a 0-100% charge.
  • Charging Frequency: With daily commutes averaging around 50–60 km, he charges the car every third or fourth day, making sure it doesn’t fall below 20%. This routine provides both convenience and battery longevity.

Charging Experience: “In my month of ownership, I’ve encountered no charging issues, except for one incident where an external AC charger disconnected due to a power outage.”

Performance and Range Management

Range Predictions: Bindra noticed that the CURVV EV’s range adapts to driving patterns. Initially, spirited driving in Sports Mode offered a range of around 350 km on a full charge. Now, with a mix of moderate driving, his range estimate has stabilized around 400 km.

Regenerative Braking: The CURVV EV comes with three levels of regenerative braking, helping drivers conserve range by using brake energy to recharge the battery. Bindra observed that with regular use, he barely touches the brakes in city driving, adding convenience and extending battery life.

Comfort and NVH Levels

Another area where Bindra felt a significant improvement over traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles was the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels. Compared to his previous cars, the CURVV EV was impressively quiet.

Passenger Comfort: “I drove 270–280 km from Mussoorie back to Delhi, and I felt fresh when I arrived. The reduced noise and lack of vibration make long drives much more comfortable,” he stated.

Technology, Interior Quality, and Aesthetics

The CURVV EV’s technology suite adds a premium feel to the driving experience. Bindra particularly appreciated the crispness of the 360-degree camera, the clarity of the 10.25-inch touchscreen, and the customizable driver display.

Interior Tech: “The reverse feed, especially, is excellent. It’s as good as 1080p HD, without lag,” he mentioned, noting that the touchscreen interface is smooth and the voice recognition accurate. These features made the steep price increase from his i10 to the CURVV EV worthwhile.

However, he did express a few minor issues with the build quality:

  • DRL Issues: Bindra’s car has had intermittent issues with its Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), with one side occasionally turning off.
  • Mirror Adjustments: Occasionally, his side mirrors failed to auto-fold or would click upon adjustment. These issues were resolved after a service visit but are worth noting.

Headlight and Avas (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System)

The CURVV EV’s headlight throw received praise, although Bindra suggested UV-cut glass would be a welcome addition, especially during night drives where glare can be an issue.

Avas System Update: “After my first service, the Avas system sound improved. Now pedestrians are more aware of the car,” he shared, noting the added safety.

Final Thoughts: Is the CURVV EV Worth It?

With all factors considered, Bindra rated his CURVV EV experience a 9.5 out of 10. From performance and range to convenience and comfort, the CURVV EV has fulfilled his expectations and more. While Bindra acknowledged that ICE vehicles may continue to coexist with EVs, he confidently recommends that hesitant buyers consider an EV for the sheer convenience and performance benefits.

On Buying an EV: “EVs aren’t just about fuel savings. The driving experience, lack of vibrations, and refined technology make it an enjoyable shift.”

For those on the fence about adopting EVs, the CURVV EV’s mix of futuristic design, practical range, and premium features make it a compelling choice that promises to stand the test of time.
